The Garden

The garden at Hookshouse extends to one and a half acres, and has evolved gradually since we came here, but the main development has been since Lise took early retirement from teaching and soon became a plantaholic. You will discover a richly planted cottage garden, two landscaped water treatment ponds with flowform cascades, an orchard, a kitchen garden and a woodland area with summerhouse. There are both intimate corners and longer perspectives to enjoy.

The garden has been opened to the public regularly for over twenty years and has been involved in fund raising for the National Garden Scheme since 2007. It was featured in the BBC series 'Open Gardens' with Carol Klein, and has appeared in various national publications.

If you are interested in visiting the garden please call us to check that we are open. There is no fixed charge but we will be inviting garden visitors to contribute to the garden maintenance fund.

If you belong to a garden group or club please consider booking a group visit to the garden. Visits include an introductory talk and an accompanied tour of the garden, with the option of refreshments to follow.
